Question:-

Explain the two addressing mechanisms used for websites on the internet along with examples.

Answer:-

The two methods for addressing the websites on the internet are the following:

1. IP Address: The IP address is a 32 bit numberic address containing a set of four numbers which vary from 0 to 255 and is separated by periods. The IP address can directly be used to access the web page instead of typing the domain name. A few examples of IP addressess are - 225, 192, 0,1,142,167,10,6.

2. Domain naming system: Every web site has a unique address and it is quite difficult to remember a unique number set for every website. In domain naming system, we give a unique name to every website. This name is called domain name. This name has strong correlation with the website. So it is very easy to remember this name.

For example:

To use Yahoo search engine, the domain name is Yahoo.co.in and to use encarta it is encarta.org.

A domain name consists of two parts. one is the name of domain and other is the web extension. The name come before"." symbol and the extension some after it, A web extension tells that kinds of organization it is, or which country does it belong ot.

E.g, .com is used for commercial organizations.
